  • For example, if you want to calculate the value of the current in amperes, you need two other electrical values.
  • This can be, for example, the electrical voltage in volts and the electrical power in watts.

This is how you can convert watts to amps

  • The electrical power in watts is calculated from the electrical voltage in volts and the current in amperes. For example, to calculate the power, multiply the voltage in volts and the current in amperes.
  • Of course, this formula can be rearranged so that you can also calculate the current in amperes.
  • In our case you would have to divide the known electrical power in watts by the voltage value in volts.
  • Here is a small example: You own an electrical device that has a power consumption of 2300 watts. The electrical voltage in our power grid is 230 volts. So in this example you would have to divide the power by the voltage.
  • So if you divide 2300 watts by 230 volts in our case, the result is ten amps.

Of course, you can also rearrange the formulas so that you can, for example, calculate the electrical power in watts from a voltage and the current strength, as already mentioned. It is also possible to calculate the voltage from the current strength and the known power in watts.
