It's time: after two years, twelve rewrites, and the chaos of 2020, my debut novel Dreams of the Dying is finally available in English. The German translation is in progress and will probably appear in the middle of next year. To celebrate the launch, I've cut the prices until the New Year: $ 2.99 for the eBook, 16.99 for the paperback, and 35.99 for the hardcover with 100 pages of illustrated appendix. Very important: please do not buy hardcovers from Amazon that do not belong to the "official", combined listing with the three formats. You can recognize them by the fact that they are cheaper and have an October 20th release date. These are the placeholders - should you still buy one by mistake, write to me and I will replace it.

If this is your first time hearing about the book, Dreams of the Dying is a fusion of fantasy, mystery, and psychological horror, exploring topics such as mental illness, greed, and ethics. The story takes place in Kilay, a tropical island kingdom in the Vyn universe; Reviewers have described the book as "Inception in a Polynesian-inspired fantasy universe". Here is the blurb - only in English for now:
Years after a harrowing war experience, ex-mercenary Jespar Dal’Varek has taken to drifting. It's a lonely existence, but barring the occasional bout of melancholia, he has found the closest thing to peace a man like him deserves. Life is "all right."

A slow-burning, riveting blend of fantasy, mystery, and psychological horror, Dreams of the Dying is a deep exploration of mental illness, morality, and the dark sides of humanity.
The bound version is the massively revised version of the web novel I wrote in 2019, with an improved plot and character arcs, a new ending, a number of cuts and new chapters, as well as simply better prose. The story focuses on Jespar but opens a completely new canon, so anything can happen - more on this in the foreword (also part of the reading sample.)

Since I financed the entire project out of my own pocket and with the help of my patrons, visibility is really the most important thing; very few indie books manage to break out of their bubble. For this reason I am extending my poster campaign indefinitely: everyone who leaves me an honest review on Amazon and Goodreads will receive a free Dreams of the Dying poster. More on this in this thread.

Finally, a thank you to everyone who has supported me - whether through Patreon or simply through your encouragement. Dreams of the Dying started as a little side thing and has now become a project close to my heart. From research to medieval sword fighting, to psychology and geology, and a complete language that a linguist developed just for Enderal, I really gave it my all for this project. It devoured my savings, but I have no regrets - I'm curious to see if the story lives up to your expectations.

  • The word of the dead:
    • Fixed an issue that caused Tealor to not be able to speak to the player character if they were in a dialogue with another NPC after the meeting in the Sun Temple was over.

  • Angel:
    • A missing quest marker has been added.
    • The wolves near Dal'Galar Castle should no longer interfere with the quest.

  • For the higher good:
    • The apparition is now correctly teleported to the player.

  • Meatless:
    • An incorrect quest marker has been fixed.
    • Various minor problems with the boss fight have been fixed.
    • A potential bug when ending the kiss has been fixed if the partner is Jespar.


  • Traces of the past:
    • The letter of participation is correctly given to the player as a quest reward.

  • The Brotherhood of Kor:
    • Fixed an issue that caused the quest to be completed early if one of the optional letters was read after they found out what happened on the island.

  • Apotheosis, Part I:
    • New, more understandable quest markers have been added.
    • General inconsistencies have been fixed.

  • Apotheosis, Part II:
    • Fixed an issue where the quest might not continue when meeting with Pahtirea in Agnod.

  • A drop in a sea:
    • Yuslan should now properly escort the player character out of the pothole in the Lower City.



  • Scorpio and Leo:
    • Various problems with the quest progress and quest markers have been fixed.
    • Oolan does not get up after reloading from the save game.



  • The enchantment skill, which is required to create a talisman, is now also shown as a requirement in the creation menu of the phasmalist table.
  • The Winter Skin spell only deals damage to hostile NPCs.
  • Weapons equipped with the left hand are no longer displayed in the smelter's dismantling menu. Generating the list of items that can be dismantled is now also a little faster.
  • Heavy leather gloves are now visible on female characters.
  • Various vegetation, box, bowls, blueprint and architectural meshes were fixed.
  • Elevators / lifts no longer get stuck if the player should leave the level if they are currently in motion.
  • The perks "Steadfast" and "Moloch" should now properly reinforce heavy armor.
  • Time jumps in Quest have been fixed so that they no longer jump back the time on the same day, but instead let the time advance correctly.
  • Various dialogues from NPCs no longer let them get up from chairs or beds, get off horses, etc.

  • NPCs now correctly carry torches at night.

  • "A story of spring":
    • Several statements by Calia and Jespar regarding possible romances should now only play if they have actually been received.


  • "Secrets"
    • Yeros Tower can now also be opened with the key from his box, which can be found during the quest "The Void".



  • "Scorpio and Leo":
    • The quest is no longer interrupted and cannot be played if the "Interlude" quest is updated in the meantime and you have to go to the Emporium.

  • All effects of alcohol have been unified (e.g. the "restore stamina" effect has been removed).
  • Water no longer has the alcohol effect, but instead regenerates a bit of stamina. Water is now also cheaper than alcohol and is sold in large quantities in taverns.
  • Most tavern owners are now selling peace herbs in case you don't have any more at night.
  • The fire arrows on the counter in "Erbgoths Lederwaren" shop in Ark were exchanged for steel arrows.

  • Several meshes were fixed.
  • The performance in the dream world, on the peasant coast, in the south quarter, in the aristocratic quarter and in the sun temple has been improved.
  • Fixed the navmesh in River Shark.

  • Some misspellings have been fixed.

  • "The emptiness":
    • Various minor problems have been fixed.

  • "Part of Something Meaningful, Part III":
    • Fixed an issue where the sanctum ceremony would not take place correctly if the player played certain other quests in the meantime.
    • Fixed an issue where Jespar would reappear in Ark between the quests "Every Day Like the Last, Part I" and "Part of Something Meaningful, Part III" if the player entered River Haim during the time.

  • "All the Dead Souls":
    • The exit door to Adila's cave is no longer blocked after the quest ends.


  • "Wanted in Flusshaim" / "Wanted in Ark" / "Wanted in Dünenhaim":
    • All targets are now mortal not only when attacking the player in combat, but also when attacking the player's allies (e.g. summons). Furthermore, they will not become immortal again if the player leaves the fight prematurely

  • "Elfriede":
    • Many small issues were fixed.



  • "The Last Stone":
    • It has been fixed that the messenger might not address the player correctly. It was also fixed that there was a possibility that the messenger would spawn dead.




  • The crash when entering the pit of bad luck in the lower town has been fixed.
  • It is now possible to quit smoking the pipe when playing with a controller.

Perks, talents, spells and classes
  • "Detect Dead" spell has been added again. The spell can be used to make the undead or corpses more visible, similar to the "discover life" spell. The spell book can be bought from various vendors or found in one place.
  • The reverse transformation from werewolf to human form now works correctly if the player is half-Qyran.
  • Enchanting the Amulet of the Hufschlag family now gives the correct Handweks enchantment if the item is disenchanted.
  • The "Quicken" spell's effect will no longer stack when used multiple times. Furthermore, the bonus is now calculated correctly.
  • Mythical spell books are no longer consumed if the player already knows the spell.

  • Jespar no longer wanders to Flusshaim at night and back in the morning while he is supposed to wait in Ark.
  • Various "ghost" NPCs are now correctly flagged as undead. This fixes various problems, such as the fact that silver weapons do not properly damage them, and that they can now be found by the new "discover dead" spell.
  • Apparitions no longer bleed.
  • The life / mana / stamina display in the top left corner of the screen is no longer displayed when NPCs summon creatures.
  • Summonable Mud Elementals are now easier to summon in tight spaces.
  • Manfred no longer leaves a pile when despawned.
  • Fixed the Vatyren Power Attack not being used correctly if the player had a certain perk. The attack cannot be used against the player, but it can hit the player's summons or allies.
  • Various opponents and "random encounters" have been fixed and improved, mainly those in the sunny coast and in the heartlands.
  • The daily routine of many NPCs in Riverville has been fixed and improved: who goes where, when, who owns what, which areas are public or private, etc.
  • The time before random conversations can be repeated has been increased from 4 to 7 days. Some conversations that "could be triggered too easily" for 15 days.
  • NPCs who smoke peace herb no longer slide away on the floor if the player sleeps in the same place (e.g. in taverns).

  • Some meshes have been optimized.
  • The performance was improved in the following locations: Various areas on the sunny coast and in the heartlands, in the sun temple, in the noble quarter, on the market square, in the southern quarter and in the vicinity of the snow star tavern.

    • The sterling lock puzzle has been fixed and improved.

  • "Angel":
    • Fixed a bug that caused the game to remain on a black screen after setting up camp for Calia.

  • "The Salvation of All, Part II":
    • Fixed a guard in the market square in Ark attacking chickens and leors during the siege.
    • Fixed a bug that caused Nehrimesi infiltrators at the market square to attract Tealor and Yuslan even though they were standing at the port gate.


  • "Two souls, part I":
    • Fixed a bug that caused the conversation with Calia to stop if it was conducted outside of the Board of Trustees.

  • "Two Souls, Part IV":
    • Fixed a bug that caused the sympathy system to not reward the player with the correct number of sympathy points at one point.


  • "The traces we leave behind":
    • Various errors in quest displays have been fixed.
    • The message that pops up when reading the passenger book has been removed. The text can now be read normally in the book.

  • "Manfred's Legacy":
    • The Cosmic Winds Potion will no longer be accidentally re-added to player inventory when giving the potion to Aurora. The fix only works on savegames in which the potion has not yet been made.

  • "Introduction to Phasmalism":
    • Fixed a bug that caused the quest to stop after crafting the first talisman.


  • "Scorpio and Leo":
    • Fixed a bug that caused the green scarab not to be removed from player inventory after being sold to a fence.
    • The player really only gets 600 gold if the player has 50 rhetoric or the seducer perk.

  • "The dark chambers of our mind":
    • The father no longer walks aimlessly around after Tharaêl teleported and captured him.
    • Fixed a bug that caused the player to accidentally attack and pull the aggro during the boss fight between father, Tharaêl and player Tharaêl, even though the player has already chosen his side.



  • Grab a pipe and some peace herb and rest for a moment.
  • Automatic scores should now be created every X minutes based on the setting in the Enderal Launcher.
  • Fixed a crash when picking up a certain game object that behaves and looks like an arrow but isn't.
  • Fixed a bug that allowed the player to "safely" sleep in areas where arcanist fever is increasing.
  • A bug has been fixed that allowed the player to activate a medicinal herb several times in quick succession and thus heal himself several times.
  • Fixed a bug where the player could no longer get off his horse.
  • Random conversations between NPCs now break off during important meetings and quest-related conversations or when another conversation starts successfully elsewhere.
  • Various scripts have been fixed and improved.

Perks, talents, and classes
  • The "Enhance Summoning" enchantment is now calculated correctly.
  • The effects of the "Enhance Summoning" enchantment no longer cause the apparition to behave oddly when it is wearing a piece of equipment with the enchantment. Do not forget that the effects of the enchantment only take effect when the player is wearing the enchanted piece of equipment.
  • Fixed a bug where all equipment was removed from an apparition even though only one item was removed from its inventory.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the apparitions, Kilana Hammerschalg and the Nameless Soul, to share the same inventory.
  • Fixed a bug when using the Scourge of the Forests Affinity (Colossus Talent) when the player was not in wolf form.

  • Combat music should now play more often, even if enemies are a few levels below player level.
  • Oorbâyas should now correctly take over the combat music when certain NPCs die. The spawn effect has also been improved so that it looks nicer.
  • Various minor AI issues were fixed, including morale, fighting style, trader inventories ...

  • The performance at the "Ark, Market Square" has been improved.
  • The performance in "Ark, Eisenfurts Schlosserei" has been improved.
