How to adjust the date, time and related settings in Windows
Would you like to configure in detail all of the date and time settings available in Windows 10, Windows 7, or Windows 8.1? Would you like to customize the format of the date and time that Windows displays, change the time zone, or how Windows updates local time using information from public servers? This tutorial will teach you all of this and more:
NOTE: This guide covers Windows 10, Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. The first section only covers Windows 10 and what you can do in the app " Settings " can set. However, in Windows 10, you can use the Control panel for the same tasks as in Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. If you're using an older version of Windows, skip the first section and move on to the second.
Adjust the date and time in Windows 10
In Windows 10, open the Settings- App to change the date and time settings. To do this, click on the gear symbol in the Start menu or one of the alternative methods we've described here: 9 ways to open the Settings app in Windows 10.
Click in the App " Settings " on the tile Time and language .
The section "Date and Time" in the app "Settings "will open. Here you can add the time, time zone, additional calendars to the taskbar, and change the format that Windows uses to display the time and date.
"Date / time" begins by specifying the time and date. For example, you can see that the following screenshot was taken on Wednesday May 3, 2017 at 8:04 pm.
Then you will get two switches named " Set the time automatically " and " Set time zone automatically By default, they should both be enabled. This means that both the time and the time zone used by Windows 10 are set automatically by the operating system using the information available about your location and by synchronizing the time with Microsoft's time servers .
If the time and time zone are set automatically by Windows 10, the next settings are on the page - " Change date and time "," Time zone " and "Adjust automatically for daylight saving time" - disabled and cannot be used.
If you don't want Windows 10 to set the time automatically, disable the switch with the same name. When you do this, the button becomes "Change date and time" active. Click or tap on it.
A new window will appear. Here you can set the date and time. When you're done, press To changeto save your settings.
Now go back to the section "Date and Time" and deactivate the switch " Set time zone automatically "if you want to configure the time zone manually. If you deactivate this switch, the setting will be "Time zone" activated underneath.
Click or tap the setting " Time zone " and select the option you want from the list.
After choosing your time zone, don't forget to choose whether Windows 10 "Automatically adjust for daylight saving time".
Next, you can choose to have Windows 10 "Should show additional calendars in the system tray". Aside from not viewing any other calendars, this is where your options are simplified Chinese and traditional chinese . We don't want that, but if you're using one of these calendars it's easy to enable them: just select the one you want and the calendar in your system tray will look something like this:
Then, depending on your location and region settings, you will see which ones Formats used by Windows 10 to display the day of the week, the date in its short and long form, and the time in its short and long form. If you don't like what you see, click or tap "Change date and time formats"to make the changes you want.
If you "Date andTime formatsto change"select, will appear in the App "Settings" a new page with the same name will appear. There you can choose which of the "First day of the week" is, and choose from the available short and long date and time formats.
Any of these options can be selected from their list as you can see in the next screenshot.
The last things on the side "Date / time" the app Find settings, are two Related settings . These are two links that will take you to the Settings For "Additional date, time and regional settings" and to the Settings"Adding clocks for different time zones" run in the old control panel.
We'll get more details on these two later in this article related settings discuss.
Open the Date and Time window in the Windows Control Panel
Changing any of the date time settings can be done through a window called "Date and Time". As always on Windows, there are many ways to access it. One way that works in all versions of Windows - Windows 10, Windows 7, and Windows 8.1 - is to use the Control Panel. Open the Control Panel and go to "Clock, Language and Region". Then click or tap "Date and Time".
An alternative way to open the date and time settings in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 is to go to the desktop and right-click (or hold) the time in the notification area of the taskbar.
Right-click or tap "Adjust date / time" in the context menu.
In Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, you can also click or tap the time to view the calendar, and then click or tap "Change date and time settings."
There are other ways to access the Date and Time window, but we think we've mentioned enough of them :). Use whatever you prefer as long as you get to this window:
In the screenshot above you can see how the window "Date and Time" looks like in Windows 10. In Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, the window is identical except for a few small visual differences.
The next page of this tutorial shows you how to change the date, time and formats, change the time zone, add clocks for multiple time zones, and change the date and time settings in Windows.
