Momoshiki Ōtsutsuki (in Japanese: 大 筒 木 モ モ シ キ, Ōtsutsuki Momoshiki) is the main villain out Boruto: Naruto the Movie and also appears in the anime retelling Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. He is a member of the Ōtsutsuki clan. He has a servant named Kinshiki Ōtsutsuki. His goal throughout the film is to capture the Kyūbi of Naruto Uzumaki. Momoshiki also appears in the manga series Borutowhere he's the first enemy Boruto ever meets.

It was dubbed in the Japanese original by Daisuke Namikawa, the German voiceover was Marios Gavrilis.

Momoshiki is incredibly arrogant and has a lot of self-confidence. He sees hard work and training as futile and prefers to gain power the easy way. Momoshiki is very interested in gaining immortality and power by creating and consuming a chakra fruit through trapping Kurama. In addition to his proud and power-hungry demeanor, Momoshiki has no consideration for human life, as he did not care to unleash a massive bijūdama in Konohagakure despite the many people in the village. He also has a sadistic side, as he took great pleasure in unleashing his power over the village, which was evident in his giggles. Furthermore, Momoshiki had no problem absorbing his comrade Kinshiki to gain more power, defeat Sasuke and the Kage, and get more chakra from Kurama. For all his malice, Momoshiki is not without honor as he was ready to accept his defeat after Boruto killed him. He was also ready to use the last moments of his life to warn the young Uzumaki that certain people would come and hunt him down for beating a high-ranking Ōtsutsuki and that Jōgan had received.

Like Kaguya Ōtsutsuki and Kinshiki, Momoshiki has pale skin and light colored hair. He has long hair that he wears in a ponytail. It has small brown horns protruding from the top of its head. He has the Byakugan eyes and Rinnegan eyes on his palms. He wears a white robe and white pants. Compared to Kinshiki, it is much smaller.

After devouring Kinshiki to gain power in the battle against Naruto and Sasuke, his appearance changes drastically. In the movie, his skin turns red and his height increases. There he looks like a demon, similar to Sakon & Ukon and Kidōmaru in the second state of their activated Juin. In the manga and anime, after consuming kinshiki, Momoshiki appears as a thinner version of himself with long black spots around his body and face, longer gray hair, golden Byakugan and Rinnegan eyes, and elongated horns protruding from his head.

Powers and abilities

Momoshiki is a member of the Ōtsutsuki clan, which gives him a lot of chakra and power. He possesses the Byakugan, which enables him to see the chakra and the tenketsu of the people around him. He has a rinnegan on each palm that he can use to absorb ninjutsu and chakra from his opponents and even send back powerful attacks like a giant bijūdama. Just like Kinshiki, Momoshiki has superhuman strength as he was able to kick Naruto aside with ease. After absorbing Kinshiki, his power was great enough to grab both Naruto and Sasuke. Momoshiki can also fly with Kinshiki. Momoshiki can use attacks that include elements such as earth, fire, water, wind, and lightning, creating powerful creatures to aid him in battle.

After Momoshiki absorbed Kinshiki, he gained much more strength. He could fight equally against both Naruto and Sasuke and overwhelm them and the Kage around. He was able to unleash a chakra technique similar to Boruto's Rasengan.

In the anime and manga by Boruto Momoshiki was able to temporarily stop the time after his death without Naruto noticing anything. Momoshiki is also able to give other people a Juin, which he did at Boruto, for example.

The story of Momoshiki and Kinshiki began hundreds of years ago in another dimension. Kaguya Ōtsutsuki became aware of the two and decided to create the Shiro Zetsu army to fight them one day if they should try to steal their chakra.

Boruto: Naruto the Movie

Momoshiki appeared in another dimension where Sasuke fought against Kinshiki in a palace. The two fought while Momoshiki watched and was a little surprised that Sasuke had the Rinnegan. Sasuke searched for information about the threat that was greater than that of Kaguya. Despite being overwhelmed, Sasuke managed to hold his own against Kinshiki before disappearing.

Later Momoshiki and Kinshiki appeared in the main dimension to which Sasuke set off. They captured Killer B to extract Gyūki's chakra from within. Gyūki tried to attack her with a massive bijūdama, but Momoshiki absorbed it, increased her power, and sent her back to Gyūki. Momoshiki then absorbed Gyūki's chakra from Killer B, leaving him in an unconscious state. Momoshiki and Kinshiki then felt the chakra of Naruto. Naruto was the Jinchūriki of Kurama, and he had greater chakra reserves than B. Momoshiki then decided to go to the place where Naruto was to capture Kurama.

Momoshiki and Kinshiki showed up at the Chunin exams immediately after the match between Boruto and Shikadai in Konohagakure. They destroyed the stadium where the exams were held. When the chaos set in, Momoshiki immediately attacked Naruto. Then he met Boruto who tried to attack him with his kote, but all of his attacks were absorbed by Momoshiki's Rinnegan. He tried to attack Boruto, who was saved by Naruto and Shikamaru. Naruto assumed they were after him and asked who they were. Momoshiki said that he succeeded Kurama in Naruto so that he could use the chakra to modify his power and create a new chakra fruit. He said that this would help him in his quest for immortality. Momoshiki used his powers to summon a giant bijūdama and attack it, but Naruto and Sasuke protected everyone and managed to fend off the attack. Although the attack was diverted, Naruto was captured by the duo and taken to another dimension.

Momoshiki and Kinshiki began extracting the bijū from Naruto, but were interrupted by the arrival of Sasuke, the Kage (Gaara, Darui, Kurotsuchi and Chōjūrō) and Boruto. After Naruto was released from the ritual, the duo began fighting the Kage and Sasuke. As the fight continued, Momoshiki decided to usurp Kinshiki's power. To the shock of everyone present, Momoshiki turned Kinshiki into chakra food and devoured it. This led to a drastic change in his appearance and an increase in power for Momoshiki.

Naruto and Sasuke teamed up to fight Momoshiki, where they were able to overwhelm him with brute strength at the beginning of the fight. After burning Sasuke with his Yōton attack and pinning Naruto down with his boulders, he conjured up a giant lava golem, but it was destroyed by the duo's Susano-Kurama combination. Katasuke also appeared and tried to finish him off with his kote, but Momoshiki took the opportunity to absorb the attack and regain his power. Momoshiki prepared to kill the Kage with the Kagemane-no-Jutsu and steal Kurama from Naruto. Sasuke worked with Boruto to attack Momoshiki so he could free the Kage and Naruto. Momoshiki was then caught off guard by a Boruto attack that damaged his Rinnegan while fighting Sasuke. Boruto and Naruto then formed a massive Rasengan and hurled it at Momoshiki. Since Momoshiki could no longer absorb the Rasengan, he crashed through the God Tree and flew into space, where he exploded and was killed.

Post mortem

Unlike in the film, Momoshiki returns to the manga and anime Boruto returned as a ghost after his death from Boruto's attack. When Boruto lands on top of the God Tree to see the effects of his attack, Momoshiki stops time to have a face-to-face conversation with Boruto. He comments that Boruto has the power of Byakugan within. Then he appears near Boruto to tell him that with his Byakugan he has the power to see the fate of other people, but cannot see his own with it. Momoshiki then says he can see Boruto's fate and warns that his blue eyes will eventually take everything away from him. And while Sasuke continues to listen to Momoshiki's speech, Momoshiki grabs Boruto's arm and gives him a juin (kāma), explaining that a person who has defeated a god can no longer be a normal person. Momoshiki then disappears, leaving Boruto with an enigmatic warning and the kama.

Momoshiki's appearance during the Chunin exams in Konohagakure is seen by Kara members as a problem that upset their plans. It is later also confirmed by Naruto, Sasuke, and the others that Boruto's Juin is completely different from everyone else, including Orochimaru's Juin, and that his Juin is in some way related to the Kara organization.

When Boruto's and Kawaki's kama come into contact during their sign of atonement, Momoshiki briefly appears in Boruto's mind. Both Boruto and Kawaki feel a painful sensation, the spying Koji Kashin wonders what the reason is, and Boruto asks Kawaki if he saw Momoshiki. Boruto learns that only he has seen Momoshiki and wonders where the feeling came from. When Delta reports that Boruto Uzumaki has a kama, Jigen realizes that Boruto is Momoshiki's vessel.

  • Sasuke Uchiha stated in the film that Momoshiki is a bigger threat than Kaguya Ōtsutsuki and revealed that Momoshiki and Kinshiki are the threat he has been looking for for so many years.
  • The gigantic golem that Momoshiki conjured up in his fight against Naruto and Sasuke is very reminiscent of Obsidius Godzilla: Unleashed.
  • In the novel too Boruto: Naruto the Movie it was revealed that Momoshiki was Kinshiki's foster son.
